Distribución geográfica
Originaria de Europa. Cultivada en gran parte del mundo.
Descripción botánica
Herbácea bienal o anual, acaule, con raíz suculenta de color rojo púrpura. Hojas aovadas a aovado-oblongas, largo pecioladas, verdes, rojas o púrpuras, formando una roseta sobre el suelo. Escapo de hasta 2 m con numerosas flores agrupadas en una panícula grande y difusa. Frutos agregados en grupos de dos o más.
