Originaire des zones tropicales d'Asie et d'Afrique, cultivée dans d'autres parties du monde.
Description botanique
Subarbuste jusqu'à 1 m de haut, très ramifié. Tiges dressées, avec base ligneuse. Feuilles ovales, pubérulentes à glabres de 3 à 5 cm de long, base cunéiforme à arrondie, dentées avec apex obtus. Verticilles de 6 fleurs, en thyrses terminales ou pannicules de 6-8 cm, bractées sessiles; corolle pourpre à blanche d'environ 3 mm; étamines libres, légèrement saillantes. Nucules couleur café, ovoïdes, glandulaires-fovéolées, d’environ 1 mm.
