Distribution géographique
Originaire des îles Moluques, cultivé essentiellement en Indonésie, Madagascar et Tanzanie.
Description botanique
Arbre pouvant atteindre 10 m. Feuilles lancéolées ou oblongues-lancéolées, de 10 à 25 cm, acuminées. Fleurs d’une couleur pourpre pâle, peu nombreuses et en corymbes terminaux; tube du calice turbiné de 1 cm, lobes longs, arrondis; pétales glanduleux de 1 à 1,5 cm. Fruit rond ou ovale de 3 à 6 cm de long, jaune pâle.
