According to the information available:
The use for conjunctivitis, cuts, scratches, earache and interdigital mycosis is classified in the REC category based on the significant traditional use documented in the TRAMIL surveys, the toxicity and validation studies and the scientific information published.
All applications in the eyes and ears must follow the strictest hygiene measures, in order to prevent contamination or additional infection and to avoid contact with irritant substances.
In cases of conjunctivitis, there is a risk of increasing the irritation by the application of Citrus spp.
Because of the risk that an earache may be due to otitis media or interna, an initial medical assessment is recommended. Its use is contraindicated in the presence of secretions from the ear and/or possible perforation of the eardrum.
If deterioration is observed in the patient, or if the conjunctivitis persists for more than 3 days, or if the earache persists for more than 2 days, or if the cuts, scratches or interdigital mycosis persist for more than 5 days, seek medical attention.
The use for coughs and diarrhoea is classified in the REC category based on the significant traditional use documented in the TRAMIL surveys, the toxicity studies and the scientific information published.
The use of this resource in cases of diarrhoea should be considered complementary to oral rehydration therapy.
If deterioration is observed in the patient (dehydration with dry tongue, decreased skin turgor, oliguria or crying without tears), seek immediate medical attention. If the diarrhoea persists for more than 2 days or the cough for more than 5 days, seek medical attention.
The use for headaches, fever, colds and flu is classified in the REC category based on the significant traditional use documented in the TRAMIL surveys and the toxicity studies.
If deterioration is observed in the patient or the headache persists for more than 2 days, the fever for more than 2 days or the cold for more than 7 days, seek medical attention.
Not for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding or in children under 5 years.
The fruit and juice of Citrus aurantiifolia are foods of relatively widespread human consumption and an industrial source of essential oil.
For conjunctivitis or earache:
Wash the fruit with boiled water and soap, slice open and apply 2 drops of the fresh juice to the affected area.
For cuts, scratches or interdigital mycosis:
Wash the injury with boiled water and soap, apply the juice of one fruit on the affected area. Cover with a dressing or clean cloth and change every 12 hours.
For headaches, flu, colds or fever:
prepare a decoction or infusion with 30 grams of leaves or rind of the fruit in 4 cups (1 litre) of water. For decoction, boil for 5 minutes in a covered vessel. For the infusion, add the boiling water to the 30 grams of leaves or rind of the fruit and cover. Leave to stand for 5 minutes, cool, strain (filter) and drink 4 cups a day.
For colds, flu, cough or diarrhoea:
drink the natural juice of a fruit twice a day.
Preparations must never be stored for more than 24 hours, even if refrigerated.
