Originaire d’Asie et cultivée dans les zones tropicales du monde entier.
Description botanique
Arbuste de 1 à 4 m de haut. Feuilles alternes, ovées, pointues à acuminées à l’extrémité, denticulées. 5 à 7 petites bractées linéaires. Calice en forme de cloche; corolle blanche, rouge pourpre, jaune ou orangée, de taille variable, aux couleurs éclatantes; filet staminal plus long que les pétales. Capsule oblongue de presque 3 cm de diamètre.
