Theobroma cacao

Small tree of 6 to 8 m, young hirsute branches. Short-species or obovate-oblong leaves of 15 to 30 cm, abruptly acuminate, rounded or obtuse at the base. Inflorescence small, cauliflower; flowers with long petioles; calyx pink, 6-7 mm; petals yellow. Fruit glabrous, ovoid-oblong, gradually attenuated at the apex, 10-sulcate, the grooves irregularly rugose-tuberculate; seeds ovoid.

Tamarindus indica

Tree of up to 20 metres. Paripinnate leaves 5 to 15 cm long, 10 to 20 pairs of oblong leaflets. Inflorescences in short racemes with few flowers, axillary or terminal; calyx 4 parted, yellowish white with reddish tones; 5 petals, 2 small and scale-shaped and 3 large, oblanceolate, pale yellow glabrous tinged with orange or red. Indehiscent pod, 4 to 13 cm long, light brown in colour. Indehiscent seeds, from 1 to 12, oval compressed laterally, brown in colour.

Tagetes lucida

Very aromatic perennial herb, glabrous, erect from 30 to 95 cm; very resinous when dried. Opposite sessile, linear or oblong lanceolate leaves, 5 to 10 mm long, obtuse or sharp at the apex, finely dentate. Yellow flowers in small terminal heads, 9 to 10 mm in diameter, cylindrical involucre, commonly 3 bracts. Achenes of 6 to 7 mm, striate.

Syzygium aromaticum

Tree of up to 10 m. Lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate leaves, 10 to 25 cm, acuminate. Pale-purple flowers, few in number and in terminal corymbs; 1 cm turbinate calyx tube, long, rounded lobes; glandular petals from 1 to 1.5 cm. Round or oval fruit 3 to 6 cm long, pale yellow.
