Pimenta dioica

Tree of up to 20 m; smooth and straight trunk. Opposite, coriaceous, ovate or elliptical leaves of up to 20 cm long, very aromatic. Panicles of about 12 cm in length with many flowers; flowers mostly grouped at the tip of the inflorescence, sessile; calyx with 4 rounded lobes, puberulous; white suborbicular petals; numerous white stamens. Aromatic fruit, generally subglobose, verrucose, with two suborbicular seeds.

Petiveria alliacea

Herbaceous or perennial subshrub of up to 1 m high, with a foul smell. Alternate leaves, oblong to elliptic, acute to acuminate at the apex, usually glabrous. Spikes of up to 40 cm, puberulous; perfect flowers, subsessile, apetalous. Achene of about 8 mm in length, cuneate, striate, with six reflex terminal bristles; single seed, linear.

Persea americana

Fruit tree up to 20 m, with a dense, rounded or elongated crown. Alternate leaves, elliptic to obovate, acute or acuminate at the apex, cuneate to rounded at the base, penninervate. Panicles shorter than the leaves, subterminal; perfect flowers, greenish-
yellowish; pubescent calyx lobes on both surfaces. Fruit very variable in shape, size, colour and quality of the pulp.

Peperomia pellucida

Herbaceous erect or ascending plant, up to 35 cm, with a succulent stem. Alternate, thin, ovate, 15 to 25 mm leaves, acute or obtuse, slightly cordate or rounded at the base, with 5 main veins. Simple terminal spikes, axillary or opposite to the leaves, 2 to 5 cm; rounded-peltate bracts; tiny, sparse flowers. Fruit, subglobose or ellipsoid berries, 0.5 to 0.6 mm in diameter
