Distribution géographique
Originaire du bassin méditerranéen, amplement cultivée en Amérique.
Description botanique
Plante herbacée, à tige dressée, pouvant atteindre 1,7 m de haut. Feuilles oblongues à ovées, tripennées de 20-40 sur 10-20 cm, les derniers segments sont filiformes. Ombelles de 15 cm de diamètre, nombreuses fleurs, pétales jaunes. Fruit ovalo-elliptique de 4 mm sur 2 mm.
Cette espèce est fréquemment confondue avec Foeniculum vulgare, laquelle a une gousse pétiolaire plus large et toutes les côtes de fruit égales.
